The Prayer Shawl Ministry at  Gray Memorial United Methodist Church held it's organizational meeting on May 16, 2004. Since that initial meeting over a thousand prayer shawls have been knitted or crocheted and dedicated by our pastor during a worship service, and given to its recipient as a expression of love and concern. The shawls are given to those who are ill, going through a difficult time, facing a crisis, grieving the loss of a loved one or rejoicing in a happy occasion in life. Baby shawls are also dedicated and given to children who are baptized in our church. Some of our members knit prayer scarves that are given to graduating seniors from our church each June on Graduation Sunday. Baby blankets are made and provided to Cary Medical Center to welcome newborns.  Small "pocket prayer shawls" are available to carry in your pocket!

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month during good weather.  During the winter months, meetings are held the first Sunday following our Worship Service.  Anyone wishing to join us is always welcome.

Jennie Lyon loved and was faithful to the church all her life. Her memory is perpetuated in the Jennie Lyon Circle which is currently not meeting.  We hope to resume this group in the near future.

These two groups are "circles" within our local
United Methodist Women's unit.
